This morning in Thanjavur we visited the BrihadiSvara Temple. It is a World Heritage Site, and is one of the great monuments of Southern India. We have seen many Hindu temples in India; so you would think it would be easy to dismiss this experience as "just another temple". However, BrihadiSvara was spectacular both artistically and architecturally. The temple is 1000 years old. The tower is 66 m high and is the tallest of its kind in the world! My favourite part was the colourful birds that perch among the Chola carvings. Definitely an amazing morning!
We have moved on to Madurai. Definitely not roughing it here--we enjoyed the rooftop pool as the sun set.
You are Always in my Prayers. Love Mom.
