Last night the Mysore Palace was illuminated for festival. We ventured out on a convoy of Tuk-Tuks. The site was magical. Today I climbed nearly 700 steps on Vindhyagiri Hill to see the 17m high Statue of Gommateshwara. The fact that I actually made it was perhaps also magical😄 While at the top I received a blessing from a Jain Monk. It is always significant when someone offers to breathe blessing into your life regardless of differences in your faiths. May your day find blessing. You are Always in My Prayers. Love Mom. P.S. Yup--between the sun, and the climb, and the heat I really was that red!

What kind of things do you see and do at the magical Mysore

We viewed a couple of Palaces, a tomb, a Fort, and traveled by Tuk-tuck. The first palace was smaller summer of Tipu Sultan who lost the kingdom of Mysore to the British in 1799. It was decorated with murals of the first three British vs Mysore wars. Tipu Sultan won the first two and tied on the third. The fort, and tomb told the story of how he lost the fourth Anglo-Mysore war.

The beautiful Mysore palace was built by the Royal family the Maharajas( high kings) of Mysore who took over ruling in Mysore in 1799. They were ruling but under British control. The palace blends Hindu, Muslim, and Gothic styles. For example under some of the domes there is stained glass ceilings imported from Glasgow, Scotland. Floor tiles were imported from England along with the iron work.

It's Called a bindi (Hindi for point, or dot) and has been used in the Hindu religion to represent the point of creation and unity. It was put on by the Brahmin monk after he sprinkled holy water on our heads with a flower and said a blessing. It is made with Vermilion powder.
