Today was fun, fun, fun. Our kayaking adventure started right below the Pile Gate. To our left were the walls of Dubrovnik. As you paddled along you felt very small in comparison. Just beyond the spot where the wall ended was a cave which was great for snorkelling. The water felt refreshing after working so hard to get there. There were about four different types of fish. They weren’t very colourful, but there were lots of them. Then the hard part.....this really pushed me. We kayaked all the way around Lokrum Island which is only about 6 km. It looked so beautiful that I think we are going to head back over there this weekend. After our adventure we climbed up to see Fort St Lawrence (the picture is from the top of the Fort and you can see some Kayaks in the water—they look really tiny). Are any of you Game of Thrones fans? Well, a lot of the TV series is filmed here in Dubrovnik and especially around the Fort. They even have Game of Thrones tours that take you to all of the places where they film. So, essentially we are living in a real life fantasy world😄 Off to Bosnia for the day tomorrow. You are Always in My Prayers. Love Mom.

The old walled city sitting by the sea is stunning no matter where you view it from; the cable car above Dubrovnik, the walls or from the sea.

Were the waters rough or farily smooth near the rocks

This part of the coast (called the Dalmatian coast) is sheltered by islands so the sea was calm. The only waves were those caused by passing boats.

We enjoy kayaking, usually doing it at Ontario's great provincial parks. This was only our second sea kayaking adventure, and at 6 km probably our longest.

The incredible wall around Dubrovnik was built to protect it from land or sea.

It is 131 km to the city in Bosnia we visited. But if you look closely at a map you will see that this part of Croatia is really just the coast and the Bosnia border is about 10 km away.

I wasn't able to find out much. The species with the black tail spots are called usata locally. I enjoyed watching the schools of striped fish that are probably young mullets.

While you were Kayaking did you ever fall off the kayak?

The kayaks were surprisingly heavy and very stable so we didn't fall off. You could even sit sideways dangling your feet in the water without feeling like you might tip.

I love snorkeling. While the number of fish species was very small, the water is clear and warm. If you want to see some great snorkeling check out some of the videos from our Galapagos trip.

The fish with the spot on its tail is locally called usata. The sea is blue because it has lower nutrient levels so very low levels of sea algea. We are loving this trip.
