I think we put more km on the scooter today than the rest of the week put together--and most of it was winding. The toughest part was getting up Messavouno Mountain to see the ruins of ancient Thira. Ancient Thira is much younger than Akrotiri as it was only inhabited from 9 th century BC. I suppose it could be considered much like many of the other ruins, but I think it stands out because of its beautiful location. Also, what struck us about this site was the influence of Egyptian civilizations.
After the ride and the hike we treated ourselves to lunch at Luckys. The best gyros, falafels, and souvlaki for 2.50 Euros each! Dad went back for seconds 😄 After all, it is our last day in Santorini.

P.S. I actually got a lot better at riding on the back of the scooter. Today I was hanging on with one hand and directing Dad with map-me on his phone at the same time.
If there is something we can climb--Dad has us climb it! Today we boarded a traditional wooden kaiki yatch and headed off to the island of Palea Kameni to climb an active volcano. You can see steam and gases gurgling out, and smell the sulphur, but it hasn't actually erupted since 1950. After circling the rim and climbing back down it felt refreshing to head back to the hot springs for a swim off of the boat.
Before heading back to Oia we spent the afternoon in a cute little port town on the island of Thirassa. In the two hours we were there we had ice team twice--it just seemed like a two-ice-cream kind of day.
Only a few more days. You are Always in My Prayers. Love Mom.
