How deep does the canyon go?
On average it is 750 m deep but at its deepest point it can be comsidered over 1300 m deep. Anyways, standing on the edge and looking down it looked like a long way to the bottom
Wow that is a long way down! We think this canyon is very beautiful. The rocks are so neat.
Did you get to go on the bridge? How long of walk is the Canyon?
How did you get to the Canyon?
Yes, we went on both bridges. We rode in a bus to the canyon and it was about a 20 minuate walk down to the bridge and longer to get up😄
The photo was beautiful of the River of Joy! We are loving all the photos and it's like we are there with you in South Africa.
Is the bridge wobbly to walk on? Does the canyon look super deep to you? Can you walk around the canyon at night?
It was a really solid bridge, but if you went on the rocks and looked down it was deep enough that you felt a little dizzy. I think you could walk to the canyon at night but it would be really dark. There were no lights and it was a little slippery.
The picture is very nice. The river looks beautiful.
Why is it called the river of joy? Does it have special meaning to the people that live near it.
Go question...here is the story...
"Blyde means "glad" or "happy" in Dutch, a name derived from a voortrekkers' expedition. The 'happy river' was thus named in 1844, when Hendrik Potgieter and others returned safely from Delagoa Bay to the rest of their party of trekkers who had considered them dead."
Would it hurt to fall?
The canyon is butteful! When was the canyon first found?
They were named in the 1880s
We were wondering if you could estimate how wide the bridge was and how far you could see down the river?
They are pedestrian bridges so they are not very long. We could see about 400 m down the canyon before it took a bend. You can tell from how small the people are about his Big the bridge is.
