The sacred valley is a beautiful place to spend Mother's Day.
Dad finally got to try cuy (the livestock breed of you know what) at a local indigenous farm. He didn't like it at all. He said it had a really funny taste--hard to describe--and lots of little bones. I know this seems like an unusual thing to eat, but before you judge, remember that there are folks in this world that wouldn't be too happy to find out we are mowing down on Angus beef. You Are Always in My Prayers. Love Mom.

So many amazing things but today we went to our first two Inca sites: Pisa and Ollantaytambo Ruins and they were amazing. Tomorrow should be the highlight of this trip the UNESCO world heritage site of Manchu Pichu.

Do you know how they kill the "cuy" and still keeping it in tact?

At the place we were served it they just gave us a very small piece. In Cusco if you order cuy the serve it cut in quarters. I went into the kitchen to get the picture of the whole guinea pig.

Strange isn't it that I liked both the tarantula and the larva in the Amazon but not the guinea pig.

Roasted mice on a stick were the treat in Malawi. I bought them once when we were travelling to several villages - but the fur and teeth were off putting and so I passed them on to my colleague whose family enjoyed them for supper. (Yep - I didn't buy just!) What an amazing trip you are enjoying!
