We are now in the Manizales region of Colombia. It is very different than being in the city of Bogota. There are many opportunities to walk in the beautiful nature reserves. At home we have orchids in pots from Zehr’s or Food Basics, but here orchids grow on the trees. They are epiphytes. That means they don’t hurt the trees they grow on.
We have seen many unusual birds and butterflies, but probably the most unique was the Glass Winged Butterfly. You could see right through the wings—just like glass. Tomorrow we have a very long bus ride. I am excited to see more of the scenery of Colombia. You are Always in my Prayers. Love Mom.

The glass wings look very delicate and they also look like they would be good to help the butterflies camouflage.

The whole butterfly is about the size of a loonie. And you are right. Since they are transparent they camouflage well. They are quite common in South America.

Are their orchids that do hurt the trees. Did the butterflies land on you?
