do people in india use the elephants to go places?
Reply
Elephants are not used for routine transportation. They are used in temples where the elephant gives blessings, usually by laying its trunk on top of the head for a small donation. They also are decorated and take part in religious celebrations. They are still used in some places to pull heavy logs out of the forest during logging operations.

how many and What animals did you see?(besides elephants)

We saw a family of Indian Guar, also called Indian bison. It is a very large impressive animal. In the park we also saw some birds and our ranger pointed out different types of trees. The wood of the teak, sandlewood and rosewood trees are so valuable the have rangers posted to small lookouts to guard against tree poachers. He also helped us track a large adult formale elephant.

how big was the elephant

Rani was a full sized female of about 40 years of age. Elephants can live up to 100! To get on her back when she was standing I had to go up stairs and use a platform. Lying on her side she was still taller than me (I'm 5 ft 3 in). I had to use her leg as a stool to get on her back and I could barely reach. So, she was enormous.
