With the first call to prayer of the day still ringing in our ears we headed off to visit one of the Seven Wonders of the World (2007). Over 2000 years ago the Nabataean Arabs carved enormous temples and tombs into the sandstone cliffs to create what we know as Petra.
To beat the crowds we quickly made our way through the Siq with sandstone formations on both sides. As we came into an opening everyone was awestruck. It was bigger, red-er, and fancier than we had imagined. This first structure is called the treasury and is one of over 800 monuments in Petra. Almost 28,000 Fitbit steps later we still haven’t seen it all, but we are going to take a little break and go back tonight. Apparently they light it up with candles. I’m very excited. You are Always in My Prayers. Love Mom. P.S. Did you know Indiana Jones Temple of Doom was filmed here?

Petra alone has about 800 different sites, so far on this trip we have seen thousands. Tomorrow we start our way to Isreal, here we will see more monuments and places mentioned in the bible.

Like any major archeological site they do not want you to touch the walls or columns, grease of hands can change the way the stone lasts.
