Just after sunrise we headed of to Giza to view the Great Pyramids. They were even bigger and more incredible than I imagined. Our guide suggested that we take a camel ride into the Sahara Desert to get the best panoramic view. How can you say no to a camel ride? My camel’s name was KFC (Kentucky Fried Camel)—I really hope they were joking. Anyways, our guide was right, you can see all three large pyramids lined up beautifully from out in the desert.
We rode all the way to the the Great Sphinx. King Khafre was one lucky Pharaoh. Imagine having your own pyramid plus a Sphinx. Also imagine the amount of limestone and granite that were used to build these magnificent structures. Off to Aswan by overnight train. You are always in my prayers. Love Mom.

The mummies are all in museums now. I went to the room that had mummified animals. Some of the ones I saw were a mummified cat, monkey and crocodile. It was kind of creepy.

I read that the sphinx was a mythical monster that told people riddles and if they got it wrong it ate them.

How high is the Sphinx and pyramid? We are trying to figure out if the height is the same as the width. Has the nose of the Sphinx eroded? We noticed the patterns that appear in the rock. It is amazing how math appears everywhere! What are they doing to restore them? Have you seen hieroglyphics on the walls?

The Sphinx is only 20m and the highest pyramid of Giza is over 140 m. I just took a picture that makes them look the same, The length of the base is actually bigger than the height. Yup...the nose fell off the Sphinx. We saw some hieroglyphs at the pyramids but there was way more in the valley of the kings.
