When you visit the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam Night Watch (1642) is a big deal. Rembrandt's largest and most famous painting was made for one of the three headquarters of Amsterdam's civic guard. It measures 3.6 by 4.4 meters. It's Huge!
See if you can find some of the things that made this Dutch Master’s work more interesting to me:
Were there elements of the painting that you found interesting? I would love to hear from you. You are Always in my Prayers. Love Mom. If you are interested in learning more about Night Watch follow this link: https://beleefdenachtwacht.nl/klokhuis/en

I’m not sure which War you are asking about, but I found this sad information on the Dutch lost in WWII.

I would nave not noticed the hand shadow if you didn't mention it. I do think the light is really neat in the whole painting and where he placed the people so they could be lit or shadowed.

Rembrandt made sure everyone would notice the claws of the chicken by having it held upside down. The claw was a symbol for the guards in the painting.

Rembrandt clearly wanted you to notice her. They think he is modeled on his daughter.

They were all members of the civic guard and they paid to have this painting done. It makes sense when you remember that there was no photographs at that time.
