Apparently, giant Jesus statues are a BIG Deal—pun intended. Most of us have heard of Christ the Redeemer in Brazil. However, at 30 m, it is only tied for the third largest statue in the world. Cristo Rei, looking out over Lisbon, is only a measly 28 m tall. However, if you include its base it is almost 92 m tall, making it one of the largest looming Jesus’. Regardless, it was a winner of an afternoon hanging out in the olive gardens and checking out Lisbon from the observation tower at the feet of Jesus. We are nicely settled into our guest house for the next three days. When we visited there were quite a few questions around stretching your travel dollars. Guest houses with kitchens are one of the ways we get more for our $. What does your family do when they travel? Stay with family? Airbnb? Camping? We would love to hear from you. Now that you have seen a European guest house, do you think it would be something you would try? Off to more adventures tomorrow after a good long sleep. You are Always in my Prayers. Love Mom.

They do light it up at night…we saw the big lights when we were up there. When it is lit it looks a bit more golden. They have put coloured lights on it on some special occasions

There is a viewing platform at the top of the base (around 60m) We took an elevator up as far as we could and the. Climbed a few floors on a twisty narrow stairway.

It is actually a bit of an adventure to get there. We took the metro to the ferry and then the ferry across the Tagus River and then a bus! It is on the shore in Almada so it look over Lisbon.

We will be staying in some guest houses run by families generation after generation. This one is an investment property but they seem to run it with a lot of love and kindness. They have coffee and biscuits available for us 24 and 7!

The guest house has three floors with really tall ceilings. There is something above that but I’m not quite sure what it is…I’m guessing storage.

Our faith is important to us and there is a chapel inside, but we mainly went because it is so absolutely gigantic. It was Sunday and their were a lot of local people snacking and picnicking in the olive groves around it.

We have a wide variety of costs for our accommodations this trip…it was about $75 CAD —the castle we are staying in is a lot more and the dormitory a lot less . In General you don’t find your cheapest accommodations in the big city (like Toronto)…

The height of the statue is in the post. We didn't have to book to get in but many things here require that you do book on line for a timed entry.
