Super Sevens and Great Eights
We had fantastic guides on our tour through Woodstock. Supreme was from Zimbabwe and Zachariah was a free-born (a local of Woodstock born after apartheid). Zachariah even took us to his home where we met his Grandpa and saw the cockatiels and canaries his family shows and raises. Have you heard the term gentrified? Woodstock was previously a very poor area, but developers have bought up a lot of the property and now it is quite hipster. This makes housing unaffordable for families who were originally local to the area. This is currently a huge talking point for locals. Pros? Cons?

I really like the blue crane, but Diane likes Zebra man best. She likes that you can see part of Table Mountain in the background.

I always find picking favourites hard but must say I have really enjoyed watching the fur seals. They do however really stink.

What did the kudu taste like. Sweet, juicy, sour, bitter, or just disgusting. Also, we like the picture of the blue crane.

The dried meat is rubbed with salt and spices, so it is a little salty and I could taste a bit of pepper. The kudu has a beef like flavour perhaps just a little stronger.

What are popular sports there. Have you seen the huge pillars of art in Johannesburg? They are astounding and it'd be great if you could get some pictures. Is there any special cultural holidays there?

Three biggest sports are football (the game we call soccer), rugby and cricket. I love watching football, and we have tickets to see a South African priemier league game Saturday night. It will be played at Cape Town stadium, a 55 000 seat stadium built for the 2010 World Cup. We don't go to Johannesburg until later in the trip.

Given my poor skills at Greek dancing, it is unlikely I will learn how to dance. We will most likely see some in Swaziland and will try to get a video.

Our class mostly liked the national bird. Two of us liked the Zebra man. One student liked the students of Soweta. What does the meat from a kudu taste like?

Our class liked the National Bird of South Africa the best because it looked real. Will you get to see this bird on your trip?

The artist painted the bird in part to remind people how the bird has declined in numbers since 1980. This is due to destruction of habitat and increased use of pesticides. We might see some later in our trip, but it unlikely.

These paintings are very realistic and unique! Half of our class likes the bird the best because it looks like it is real! The other half of our class liked the Zebra Man the best because it is a cool costume in the painting. What is your favourite street art so far? Have you went swimming with sharks yet? Have you seen any snakes or penguins? What other cool things are you doing this week?

I liked the bird, Diane liked the Zebra man. We saw penguins today out on Robben Island, there is a large breeding colony on the Island. We hopefully will get closer to them on Saturday on Boulder beach. Sharks won't happen until Monday.
