Akko—Romans, Ottomans, Crusaders, Mamelukes, Byzantines, and British....on and on it goes....layer upon layer of cities. We head below today’s functioning Ottoman/Israel layer to the excavated underground city of the crusaders. The knights templar tunnel takes us to the port from the castle. We can feel the mystery of the journey. Not even archeologist can agree on its purpose. Another fascinating day in Israel. You are Always in my Prayers. Love Mom.

Wow that tunnel looks very amazing! It looks like it is glowing from the lights.

The Templars tunnel was about 150 meters long. Yes we were in parts of the castle. It was strange in that it is mostly underground.

Emma wonders why the tunnels were built so small? It looks like a person would have a very hard time using them.

This "secret" tunnel connected the western part of the castle to the port in the east. I am probably a little taller than your average knight. I only had to bend or duck at a few spots in the tunnel.

Zeppelin wonders what the tunnels would have been used for?

Apparently architects can’t agree on what the tunnel is for I like to think it was a secret passage from the Port to the city.

Nobody knows for sure. It is thought for smuggling things into or out of the castle without being seen.
