Every day we see Marine Iguanas, and every day I’m excited to see them. Each one seems to have a different colour and personality. Some seem to smile and others really look evil. The iguanas have just the right colour to camouflage themselves—red if the sand is red... black if the sand is black...grey if the sand is white.
After a few days you learn to tell when they are feeling threatened. They bob their heads and hiss salt from their nostrils. Sometimes this means you need to back up. Sometimes they are just angry with another iguana. Tomorrow we are going to see land iguanas. I wonder how they will be different. You are Always in my prayers. Love Mom.

The size varies from island to island, but the ones we saw on Isabella are the largest and some males would be over a meter long.

They are mainly black or dark grey. They spend a lot of time sitting in the sun to warm up their bodies. They seemed to ignore our presence. While they may look mean they eat algae.

Marine iguanas were very common along the shores and we saw hundreds. We ate plantain quite often. They look like bananas but are bigger and not sweet. The chef on our boat cooked them many different ways.

We saw lots of them along the shores every day. Unfortunately I never came across one while out snorkeling.

While they are considered a vulnerable species because they only exist on the Galapagos islands. There are about 200 000 to 300 000 iguanas.

We did eat many plantain dishes, I really like plantain chips. The also served a lot of fresh juice, my favourites include guava and tree tomatoe.

Some great questions, the males havr slightly bigger crests, they Bob their heads up and down to attract females. They do not move very fast.
