An evening of traditional dance in an open area theatre followed a midnight stroll on the Acropolis Grand Promenade. Unforgettable!

Both the soldiers uniforms and the dance costumes are connected to rural traditions; so they are related. Someone said the pompons were to kick off fleas, but it turns out that isn't true. Here is the real scoop😄 "Tsarouchia are typically made of a number of pieces of stiff leather hand-sewn together, in the moccasin fashion. They have a characteristic pointy nose, usually covered by a large woolen pompon, which often occurs in Turkey as well. The latter was a relatively late addition, originally a way of making the shoe nose waterproof, but increasingly becoming an essential feature for their decoration. During the period when the Evzone unit was a combat unit within the Greek Army, the pompon hid a sharp blade which was used in hand-to-hand combat."

We have a new student in NEXUS and he was wondering what the calibre of the guns were when the soldiers were marching in the parade?? Not sure if they even were guns that still fired? What was the significance of the tomb?

For Alex: for cerimonial uniform they carry M1 Garand, a more historic rifle. When on active duty the carry a fully automatic weapon.

Common names here seem to be Nicholas for men and Anna for women, but that is just from people we have met.
