Have you heard of Central Park in New York City? Well, Chapultepec Park is twice as big and it is awesome! It has a castle, two lakes, nine museums, a zoo, gardens, forests and even an amusement park.
We spent the whole day there but I will tell you about two really cool things: First, Fuente de Tlaloc—which means the fountain of the Aztec rain god Tlaloc. It was created by the very famous Mexican artist Diego Rivera. What makes it worth the 8 km walk is that it was actually, at one point, part of the Mexico City water system. Second, the Chapultepec Zoo. It has animals from all over the world but we thought you would like to see the Mexican Wolf. I thought he looked friendly but even if I could I wouldn’t pet him. If you could only choose one would you choose the zoo or the fountain? You are Always in my Prayers. Love Mom.

I would like to know more about how it was part of the water system.

The water was brought by aqueduct from the mountains around Mexico City. There were storage tanks near the fountain from which the water flowed through the fountain and then on through pipes into the city.

What other animals were in the zoo?

While the zoo had the regular assortment of African wildlife (lions, giraffes, hippos) and Pandas the animal I enjoyed seeing was a small salamander called the axolotl. This salamander lives in the lake and canals around Mexico City. It never turns into a full adult and is able to regrow a missing limb. Sadly it is also endangered.

For the health of the animals it is best that people do not feed the animals.

The Mexican wolf is the smallest of the grey wolves. It is about the size of a really big dog.

It was designed by the Mexican artist Diego Rivera.in 1952 and supervised its construction. It fell into disrepair and was rebuilt in 2010.

I really like seeing animals and so seeing animals is a great choice. This fountain however is one of a kind so I am so glad I didn’t have to choose and saw both.
