Our Taxi driver taught us how to say Happy New Year in Spanish on our way in from the airport—so,
Feliz Año Nuevo 2020! Our street is lined with 20 giant nativity sets and 47 humongous piñatas. Because today is New Year’s Day the streets are busy with families celebrating. What do you think it would be like if one of those huge Piñatas was filled with candy? You are Always in my Prayers. Love Mom.

Do you ever have problems with taxi drivers that don't speak English? What do you do then?

We actually use Uber in Mexico City because it is considered safer. All Uber drivers are screened and since you go through the app language is not a problem. Although I do speak a little Spanish.

Why do they put up piñatas for New Years? Is it’s a tradition that they follow or something else?

Although piñatas originally had a religious significance in Mexico it would seem that anything that is some kind of celebration is now a reason to put up piñatas.

Ray thinks that end to end the piñatas would be almost as tall as he is.

We were sitting at the gate waiting to get on the plane and we pulled up the live footage from Times Square on my IPad and did our own countdown.

The piñatas were all the same shape but were decorated differently. Some were shiny, and some were covered with paper flowers. Some were even covered with yarn. That would be good for Listowel Yarn Bomb.

Did they open the piñata and was there anything inside like confetti or candy?

We left before they took them Down but we think the ones hanging along the street are just for decoration. Can you imagine how much candy they would hold?
