100 000 people live in Capetown. That is 5 times the population of North Perth and smaller than kichener/waterloo

We are waiting at Toronto Pearson Airport for our flight to leave. On our way we stopped at Wendy's for coffee and to watch the planes come in (see picture). Ray had a turtles blizzard from Listowel Dairy Queen to say Goodbye to Canada. I was going to have some raspberries, but we set them down somewhere and couldn't find them. We must have been too excited about our trip. Do you think they will have Dairy Queen in Africa? Do you think my raspberries will still be good when I get home?

I don't think there is a Dairy Queen in Souther Africa. There are KFC and MacDonalds! We can't see Victoria Falls from our hotel because it is almost 2000 km away from where we are. That is farther than PEI is from Listowel😀

Our oldest son had spent a summer in South Africa and made it sound like a must see location. The ability to see African wildlife adds an extra reason to come.

It is about noon and the temperature is 24 degrees. Currently it is sunny with no clouds in the sky. Our driver in from the airport mentioned that the area has not had much rain this year.

I was looking forward to trying some African game. This morning we walked into the market and the first stall offered samples of Biltong, South African dried meat (think Beef Jerky). He had beef and Kudu biltong. I liked them both though the kudu was darker in colour and had a stronger flavour.

I don't think there is a Dairy Queen in Souther Africa. There are KFC and MacDonalds! You can see Table Mountain from almost everywhere in Capetown--I will post a picture of the harbour and mountain later today. We are a little tired from the long trip but are already having fun. Ray already tried kudu biltong at the market (air dried Kudu)😀 The temperature here is 24 C and sunny.

We are wondering about the time change. Does the time change make you tired?
Reply
Ray
2/8/2017 10:05:52 am
We are 8 hours ahead. Most of the time change happened during the flight to Amsterdam which is 7 hours ahead. The time change and long flights do mix up your sleep, but we often find the change harder coming home. Hope to see live kudu, we saw some in Ethiopia two years ago. There were no live animals at this market. The people dress pretty much the same as us. Went into the large mall by the harbour and they have stores like H&M that look just like the ones at Conestoga mall.

We looked up a picture of a Kudu and they have the coolest antlers! We also noticed at air dried Kudu looks a lot like beef jerky. We are wondering does it taste similar? Did you try any other interesting foods in the market? We are also curious about the types of fruit they were selling in the market!

Yes the beef and kudu taste similar, the kudu is just a little stronger flavour. We supper at the market and I had tradition African dish called pap. It is white corn ground very fine then boiled. It is like thick white porridge and served with a stew and greens. The fruits looked great and very fresh. We did have some very large avocados and great oranges today.
